Monetizing your Blog

Ideas to Make Money from your Blog

Ideas to Make Money from your Blog

When you start to build up a group of loyal followers to your Blog, and you are thinking of making it a second income or even your business, it is a great ideas to start by promoting products similar to your Blog topic, and use these Ideas to Make Money from your Blog. In this article we will take a look at the most popular ones which are also, probably, the most lucrative ones and which can help make a blog successful money-wise. Following are the top ways to monetize your blog.

Using Adsense and other ads

AdSense is a service provided by Google which allows you to place ads on your blog. This is an easy way which can help you monetize your blog. You just place the ads on the blog and earn a revenue each time somebody clicks the ad on your page. No sales are involved and it also involves no effort on your part; you earn a small amount every time one of the visitors of your blog clicks on an ad – the visitor does not even have to buy anything.

Instead of using Adsense, one can also accept ads directly from other sites and earn a monthly income for promoting the other sites on the blog. Another option would also be to use the ad to promote an affiliate offer for a commission.

Add a Shopping Cart

Adding a shopping cart to your blog can help you make money by making it easy for people to buy directly from your site. This is a great option for those who have products to sell. Adding a shopping cart to your own blog will simplify the process of selling to your blog’s visitors. Those who sell their own products or who would be interested in selling other people’s products through their blog should definitely consider this option as a way to make money out of their blog.

Affiliate products

Affiliate networks such as Clickbank contain a wide range of affiliate products which one can promote for a commission. Clickbank is a hub for vendors, retailers and affiliate marketers.  Once you join the network, you can promote products that are sold on Clickbank on your blog, and earn a profit for each sale that is made through your blog.

This is a great option for those who would be interested in selling but do not have their own products to sell. The most popular products on Clickbank are “how to” ebooks, courses and programs and the advantage is that they cover almost every niche you can think of, so it would be easy to find something that relates to your blog.

Email Marketing

Finally, Email Marketing. This is one of the easiest ways to make money through your blog. Having an email list will help you in many ways: for example, it will increase the visits to your blog and can also greatly increase your sales.

Email marketing involves collecting email sign ups through a landing page or a webform on your blog so that you can then send your subscribers daily/weekly/monthly emails with information, offers, articles, updates etc…

If done right, a subscriber can be turned into a customer over and over again, leading to a huge increase of potential revenue.

These are the four most common and an easy yet effective Ideas to Make Money from your Blog.

Keeping your blog updated and interesting is, of course a must to ensure its success, and an interesting Blog paired up with one or more of the above will ensure a lucrative income. However be aware that these still take time to setup and are not an overnight solution.

Spaghetti Back-link Map

Why having a Linking Strategy is important

Why having a Linking Strategy is important

A Linking Strategy is: How you would like your website to handle external and internal links?  There are plenty ways your site can show value to search engines when it comes to back-links.

Back-links are recommendations or acknowledgements from other sites. The search engines are trying to determine why someone wants to visit your site. The best way for them to do this is to look at what other types of sites are linking to yours.

Getting back-links from sites similar to your own is important, as Search engines are getting smarter at identifying good and bad back-links, and will demote your site if you have links from sites that are not relevant or topical, and may have been  created with the intent to simply boost your rankings. This is where Quality is better than Quantity!!

All these Quality votes will validate your cause for top search engine positioning. The more quality / relevant back-links you have pointing back at you the better this is going to be.

There are 3 types of links that should concern you:

Internal links

Internal Links are hyperlinks that target the same domains as the source link. Basically they connect the pages of your website. These links are of an utmost importance to increase relevancy of your pages.

These types of links are useful for three reasons;

  • they allow users to navigate your website
  • they establish information hierarchy for you website
  • they spread ranking power around your website.

Inbound links

Inbound Links are links pointing to your website from other sites. The relevancy of your website is given by the inbound links that affect the ranking of your website in search engines. My advice is when building inbound links, try finding web pages with content that is relevant and interesting. Using niche keywords in the anchor text of the link is important, too.

Outbound links

Outbound Links point from your website to other websites. Except Google, nobody knows how these work, although there are many opinions concerning outbound links. The thing is users expect to find references to trusted resources when visiting your site. So it is important to have an inbound and outbound mixture of links which point to high quality Internet resources that exist. Never agree to place links to low quality web pages and don’t put more than three outbound links per page.

Link building strategies that work can take time and trial and error. For improving your linking strategies you can use:

–      links from blogs

–      web directories

–      article directories

–      press releases

–      Social Media

–      Comments on other Blogs / Forums

Back-link Checker Tools

It is important to also protect yourself from bad Back-links and this can be done using a back-link checker tool made up of a series of tests helping you to determine how many back-links are pointing to the website or URL you entered.

There are many free back-link checkers online; the best is the new Links checker in the Google Webmaster tools.

Keyword Research Tools are essential

Keyword Research will give your Blog a Boost

Keyword Research will give your Blog a Boost

Everyone owning a site or a blog should know about and practice Keyword Research, it is vital in getting ranked on search engines. Long tail keywords can also greatly help a site’s ranking and in this article we will further explain about both.

Keyword Research will give your Blog a Boost because it is a process that involves finding popular keywords to write articles on. This means finding out which keywords people look for most in search engines. Knowing what people type into search engines will help you know what content to add to your website in order to provide people with the information they are looking for and it also helps you target your ideal visitors.

Doing keyword research will help you connect to people who are specifically looking for the information you provide on your site. This means that keyword research is a great way to get lots of targeted, high quality traffic that will eventually lead to sales.

This process will also help you know how to rank for multiple keywords on the same topic. This is very important as it increases your credibility, both on the eyes of the visitors as well as the search engines.

Keyword Research Tools

Their are many Keyword Research tools available to assist with your research, some of the best ones are free and supplied by the Search engines. This means you get access to the database of searches for the Search engines, and the volumes of searches either worldwide or country specific.

Examples are;

  • Google Adwords – Keyword Planner – Free signup
  • Bing keyword Research – Free signup
  • SEOTools – free online search tool

Their are many others that can be found online. They are generally quite simple to use and also have How-To videos to help if needed.

Long tail keywords

Long Tail Keywords are another way to get traffic to your site, and are basically Keyword Phrases, or longer keywords that are more specific. A long tail keyword would be, for example:

“how to cook chicken for a girlfriend who is tired of eating chicken”

Instead of a shorter keyword such as “how to cook chicken”. Long tail keywords will help you get even more specific traffic to your site and the visitors you get through long tail keywords are of much higher quality.

Long tail keyword will help you get more targeted traffic as they have intention and they help you focus on what it is that you provide on your site in connection to what people are looking for. For example, let’s take the keyword “summer dress”. People who type this keyword could be looking for various different things; they might be looking for pictures of summer dresses, for example. On the other hand, a long tail keyword such as “where is the best place to buy a short summer dress for a beach party” is much more targeted, and will get you the specific type of traffic you need.

It is true that long tail keywords have low searches, but on the bright side keep in mind that competition for long tail keywords is also very low, so using long tail keywords will help you rank higher, and will also ensure that all the traffic you get through them is of high quality.

One of the easiest ways of finding long tail keywords is by using the alphabet soup technique. This involves typing in a keyword on a search engine, such as “summer dress” and then writing down the letters of the alphabet one by one. So, for example, you would write “summer dress a” and look at the suggestions the search engine gives you so that you are able to work out which long tail keywords people usually look for that might be relevant to your site. Typing “summer dress a”, for example, brings up the suggestion “summer dress and jacket”; “summer dress b” brings up “summer dress brands” which might be relevant to someone who sells summer dresses, and so on.

Keyword research will give you Blog a Boost, and is essential to get a quality ranking and targeted, high quality traffic to your site, and  once you know about them they are also easy to use to your advantage and increase visitors to your website.

How to do Off-Page SEO

How to do Off-Page SEO

As per my previous article about How to do  On-Page SEO, that refers to anything you can do from within your website to achieve higher search engine result placement. Learning How to do Off-Page SEO is its counterpart, and could be described as anything you can do from locations external to your site to enhance your SEO strategy and overall Page Ranking.

Here is a checklist of factors you can work through to improve your off page SEO

  • Build quality back-links – this is doubtlessly the number one factor in off page SEO. Your goal should be to build natural, high quality links. Don’t worry too much about whether they are follow or nofollow, just build them. Sooner or later you will find opportunities to build more follow back-links – if your content is  worthy.
  • Write a blog – if you don’t already have one, what are you waiting for? Every website should have one.
  • Promote through popular social media sites. There is so much competition nowadays no matter what your niche may be. You won’t get your share of traffic unless you are willing to promote your blog or website by consistently exposing it to social media. Remember that when engaging in social media, you are establishing a reputation. Participate with a team-player mentality, and avoid the temptation to take the easy route and just spam. You have to offer something other than links to your content. That’s your name out there…
  • Social bookmarking. Along the same general lines as social media marketing, but with a slight difference. With these platforms, rather than simply allowing you to show your links, they will lead viewers looking for content like yours right to your blog or website. Examples are StumbleUpon, Scoopit, and Reddit.
  • Post videos to YouTube. Get creative and make some quality, attention grabbing videos. Post them on YouTube, promote them via other social media outlets as well.
  • Submit your site to search engines. If you wait for them to pick your blog up, it might be a long time coming. Cut to the chase and deliver your particulars right to their doorstep.
  • Submit to directories, DMOZ is just one example. Such directories are just one more way to have your site exposed to more people; and of course it is going to be seen by a targeted set of viewers as well.
  • Guest blogging. Offer guest posts to those with content similar to yours. This way you can expose your site to their following, while creating back-links as well.
  • Offer an eBook, Web app, or something else of value for free via social media, and of course, those who take you up on it must come to your site in order to download.
  • Pay per click ads. If you have tried all of the on and off page SEO tweaks you are willing to try, and are still not where you want to be in terms of traffic; then it may well be time to give things a kick-start… pay per click advertising is often a valid solution.

The above represents the basics for learning How to do Off-Page SEO. To have a solid Off-Page SEO strategy in place, your On-Page SEO practices need to be effectively executed and maintained as well. Once you have these both working well, your search engine rankings will dramatically improve, and help drive traffic to your site.

How to do On-Page SEO

How to do On-Page SEO

How to do On-Page SEO

On Page SEO (Search Engine Optimization) includes anything you can do from within your website to achieve higher placement in search engine results. The content of your page is a large factor; if the quality isn’t there, the traffic isn’t likely to grow to a significant enough volume to meet your needs. This is why it is important to know How to do On-Page SEO Effectively.

The use of good language, spelling, and grammar is a must; it’s also important that you provide a consistently high quality user experience. The overall quality of service that your blog or website provides, is the very essence of on page SEO.

On-Page SEO Tips

  • Choose a Website URL that relates to your subject matter or product
  • Use a Blog Post URL which instantly defines the content – this works best for social media sharing.
  • Begin each title with a relevant keyword.
  • Complete all fields such as; Title Tags, Header Tags,Alt Image Tags, Post Description
  • Use Semantic keywords in your post – Find relevant keywords and use them; don’t get carried away though.
  • Use your Main Title keywords within the first sentence, or as soon as possible thereafter – at least within the first paragraph.
  • Create outbound links to related content; and of course make sure that each site linked to is of high quality. The links help search engines to identify the specific content matter you offer.
  • Provide social media share buttons; research shows that when they’re present, there is a far higher chance that your content will be shared.
  • Use a SEO plugin (all in one SEO) to help with filling in the required fields
  • Google Authorship is a great way to improve your post rankings in Google, and is still not commonly used.

How to Improve On-Page SEO

Create Unique and Valuable Content

First of all, the written content, images, and any other media applied to your pages should be of high quality. Keep in mind that your content should demonstrate a value beyond simply hawking your brand as well. The information you offer must differ significantly from that of others writing on the same topic; if it doesn’t you have added nothing to the pot. Obviously, offering rich content creates a situation where your site readers are more likely to stick around and read on. Your aim should be for the majority of your blog or website visitors to feel that your content targeted their needs, and was also presented in an effective manner.

Is the Post URL Search Engine Friendly?

When it comes to solid SEO, it really doesn’t matter what you have offered up in terms of quality if your content can’t be linked to. Search engine algorithms are based upon back-links as well as quality. Bottom line is – if its not link friendly then you will have poor ranking and poor site traffic. With multimedia presentations becoming ever more common, be sure that any Web applications you use allow you to present content you can link to.

Doing On-page SEO can seem daunting at first, but don’t worry if you get it wrong or forget a few things, as you can always go back and update your posts. Once you are comfortable with  your on page SEO you should move on to deal with off page SEO which I will talk about in my next Post.

Protect yourself from Cyber Crime

Cyber Security – Simple tips to protect yourself

Cyber Security – Simple tips to protect yourself

Cyber security is defined as: any steps that you could take, to protect yourself from those who would attempt to profit through the exploitation of personal information or accounts – this done through your computer or network connections. Cyber exploitation, or cyber-crime, could involve hacking into the information possessed by large online or offline corporations, but could also mean hacking into someone’s smartphone, email, website, social media account, or blog. Basically, anything that could be done to gain money, or to meet a goal such as accessing a vast audience in order to promote a product, and is considered cyber exploitation. It is these activities that cyber security protects us against. The list below is to provide you with some straightforward advice on how to protect yourself and all of your online holdings, including your social media, email and online banking accounts, your blog, and whatever else you must keep safe.

Tips to Protect Yourself, Your Social Media Accounts, and Your Blog

Use the best Virus and Malware protection you can afford.

Malware is a virus like piece of software that can allow someone to access your computer remotely, or obtain information on your computer and send it to them at specific times. The best protection is a good Anti-virus software package, even some of the free ones will be better than nothing (I use Avira) . Just make sure you keep it up to date.

Use a firewall.

A firewall can protect your computer against hacking and various other destructive elements. It filters out attempts to connect to your computer or website, by using predefined rules that have been applied; it can also block family members from accessing higher risk websites. Getting to know how to use a firewall is well worth the effort, and they generally come with your antivirus software or basic ones are built into the operating system (windows).

Password Rules to follow;

Change your Password regularly: If someone really wants access to one of your accounts, sooner or later they just might figure out how to achieve that end. Changing your password regularly makes their work a whole lot tougher.

Use complex Passwords: Simple passwords are easier to remember, but they are also easier to exploit. When it comes to setting passwords, the more complicated you can make it, the harder it is to crack. Try and stick with using passwords that have; lowercase letters, capitals, numbers and a few symbols combined.

Don’t use the same password for all your Internet accounts: It sure is tempting to do this, but if one of your accounts gets hacked, none are safe if you have used the same password across the board. Better to be safe than sorry.

Never share passwords with friends. It’s nice to dream, but in reality, friends don’t always stay friends forever.

Consider all unknown email as a warning.

If you were to get an email form the bank insisting that you change your account password, or other personal account-related information through a provided link, that is classed as a phishing email. If you receive such email, most times it’s exceedingly obviously, but be wary, as sometimes criminals can be more sophisticated and deceptive. Back your computer and blog up on a regular basis. If a hacker were to access your blog or computer, you would potentially face a loss of content; this is a scary thought indeed. Don’t take the chance. Back your blog up as often as you can; if you post regularly, then at least twice a week is a good idea. There are plenty of online backup tools you can use either for free or a small fee.

Google Webmaster Tools can help.

Google Webmaster Tools can provide you with notification of security problems related to your blog, including malware. But of course, this won’t help unless you refer to your account with regularity. If you find anything, don’t delay in fixing it in order to avoid downtime.

Check all accounts regularly.

Important online accounts should be checked frequently. In the case of online banking accounts, check that all transactions are ones that you are responsible for. In the case of email accounts, keep an eye open for suspicious activity, such as email that you didn’t send, but shows as sent from you.   The above list is a basic summary of steps that virtually anyone is capable of carrying out, in order to have a basic level of cyber security. But don’t just read it – do it… for your own sake.

Social Media information overload

Social Media Overload

Social Media Overload:- What it means to Your Blog, Brand, and Business

Why you need to be careful to avoid information overload on social media when promoting your brand. There was a time when you could do so with relatively decent results using the mainstream channels; but those days have gone.

Social media has become one of the more prominent cultural icons of our time. Nowadays those who use social media share; family moments, recipes, witticisms, and images of pretty much everyone and everything – this can distract potential customers when promoting your business, brand, or blog. It is therefore no great wonder that Social Media Overload has become a real issue.

On one hand you need social media to relate your brand to the world; but on the other, information overload is so real that people have begun using techniques to capture followers by showing a picture of yourself eating an omelette so you can later show them the link to your new sales pitch. When you do this, there is no specific theme, and everything is scattered and unfocused. In the end they don’t care what you show them, people will pick and choose what they read or look at.

Your followers don’t just get information overload from you, they get it from everyone, as do you. It’s come to a point where many are reading only enough of what you post to keep you as a follower. What does this mean in terms of promoting your business, brand, and website?

First of all, if you are using social media to promote your business, it’s no longer going to be as effective, as people are tuning out mentally due to scattered information. Bottom line – don’t depend on social media alone to have your business or brand seen and heard, use mailing lists, videos, and other forms of sharing.

What you need to do is write a quality blog – that is if you don’t write one already. Social media has taken a turn that requires sweeping change to occur for it to become strongly viable once again. Apparently seeing pictures of smiling babies, you horseback riding with friends, and then links to your business promotional material, is simply more than what the average brain cares to filter. As a result it all blends in with the next sales post. It isn’t the end of the social media world, but it will require you to look at things with a new awareness and a solution-seeking mentality.

Blogging has been a solid and reliable promotional tool for a long time, and seeing as information overload doesn’t apply in this same manner to blogging, it’s the better bet to keep your product or service in the limelight. Your loyal blog visitors will always be there to support you.

So keep on blogging or Start a Blog then you can keep your brand alive whilst still learning how to use social media to maintain your followers and share snippets from your Blog to attract new followers.

Google+ the next big Social Media tool

Google+ v Facebook

Google+ v Facebook

Like many others, you probably go on to Google+ hoping that one day it’ll turn into something that it is currently not – at least to you. But if we look closer at many of its functions and additional settings and extensions, we can see that once we gain a clear picture of how to work this amazing social tool to our advantage, we are going to be rubbing shoulders with those who know how to maintain the edge in social media marketing. Some of them have begun to figure it out already.

Pay attention, as when Google+ really takes off, it’s going to be the hottest thing since sliced bread… actually hotter because sliced bread would do nothing in terms of helping you to promote your business, your blog, and your social media profile or brand – unless you ran a bakery and were giving the sliced bread away for free ;0)

They say that when it comes to innovative platforms in social media, it’s about getting in deep in the early days that will gain your brand or blog the advantage. So get in there and figure Google+ out before others do.

In trying to get a better look at Google+ and what it has to offer, it might be helpful to compare it to something more solidly familiar. So let’s look at Google+ v Facebook in terms of functionality and the ability to get your brand out there.

Here are some key points of comparison between Google+ and Facebook:

With Google+, due to the fact that it’s still in its early days, and everyone is trying to get a following together in somewhat of a hurry; the mindset is more open for people to follow those they might not follow on other social media platforms. On Facebook you still have to work hard to get people to follow you.

Google has integrated all of it’s services with Google+ –

What this means to you is that no matter what you are working on within your Google account, from where you are you can post to and interact with Google+. Facebook offers nothing like this.

High visibility through linking –

Google+ offers much more site link visibility in your profile than Facebook ever did. Additionally on this point, people go to Facebook primarily for personal reasons, not to view links. This is another point where Google+ comes out on top – it’s far more business oriented.

Control lists using your circles –

Knowingly you can accurately control who sees your posts. Each circle is given an appropriate degree of privacy; and therefore when you assign followers to the appropriate circle, more sensitive posts, as well as all posts will only be shown to those who should see them. You can’t do this with Facebook.

On Google+ you can video chat  –

Yes, video chat conferencing. With Google+ Hangouts it’s easy to round up a chat with similar minded people, you can’t beat that; and it’s free. What a great way to promote your brand – by letting your customers see you live! You can even record the Hangout sessions for playback from your profile page. Facebook can’t offer you this.

Security Concerns –

Who do we feel better leaving in charge of our personal information? How many times has Facebook security been violated? How often do things like that happen with Google? That’s right, when it comes to keeping private matters private and security matters secure, Google is the clear winner.

The above comparison points to help clarify the Google+ v Facebook discussion constitute the shortlist. There is so much more available to those that bother to learn and get in deep. If you haven’t yet opened your mind to exploring the wide array of benefits available to you and your blog, brand, or business through Google+, it’s time to get on board the train… you certainly can’t board it too early… don’t let it miss your stop in these most advantageous early days.

Does Money Grow on Trees?

Can Blogging Bring You Financial Freedom?

Can Blogging Bring You Financial Freedom?

Whether or not you are currently a blogger and have a day job, do you feel passionate about it? Do you yearn for something better? You probably crave financial freedom – we all do. Or perhaps you only want to make some additional income. What about making money through blogging? It probably hasn’t evaded your awareness that there are some bloggers out there doing this. But how do they? Can you make it happen too?

Develop a Business Strategy

The simple fact is that if you are just writing, you aren’t going to get much in terms of financial payout. But if you create a logical business strategy using your blog as the nucleus, well that’s another matter entirely. Most people would love to stay home and work on monetizing their blog, that is if they knew how to make it work.

Some believe that if they simply write blog posts that once they have accumulated a decent amount of content, their advertising revenues will pay off significantly. While it’s true that as content accumulates advertising revenue does also, you really can’t expect to make a living from that alone.

Your next thought may be to ask ‘so what can I do to create significant blog revenue’? And the answer is that it’s all up to you. How much creativity are you willing to put into your plan? The sky’s the limit. But don’t move too fast; think each step out in full. Once you get started it’s messy to backtrack.

Steps to Monetizing your Blog

The first and most important Step to monetizing your Blog is by having a blog that is as easy to monetize as possible, by choosing the right topic matter for your blog. This obviously means that if you have already chosen a blog topic and the audience isn’t there; or if your blog doesn’t have content relative to the business you wish to associate with it, you will need to change it to have a shot at success.

Do your research and find out what people are reading. Choose a topic that you can add originality and quality to; making money online is the result of having a professional quality blog.

With the above facts in mind, here are some ideas to help you create a strategy to blogging in order to create financial freedom:

  • Develop effective writing skills and work on presenting top notch content.
  • Set up a Google AdSense or other advertising account and post relevant ads.
  • Set up an online business. Write interesting posts relative to your products to draw readers there.
  • Get involved in affiliate sales. Find products relative to your content and put links in each post. But if you do this, don’t hide the fact that you are an affiliate as it will work against you.
  • Work on creating solid blog traffic. This is something we all aim to do, but once you get into figures over the 10,000 mark you can begin selling advertising spots.
  • Create a product that sells and market it through your blog. An example could be an eBook. I use this as an example because it’s something anyone could do. If not an eBook, perhaps you could develop a web app or perform a service and charge a fee for it. Guest blogging is another idea.

The above are steps you would take toward building a professional blog and will answer the question “Can Blogging bring you financial freedom?“. There are no limits as to the heights you can take your blog to when you commit yourself to success.

You can learn how to complete the steps above in the Learn How to Blog online course.
